Balance is the key in Muay Thai kicks

You must learn to balance yourself firmly while and after kicking. Why?
  • If your balance is strong you opponent cannot make you fall, even if he grabs your kicking foot (only a fighter can, however, even grab or hold your kicking foot).
  • If your balance is strong, you can move with speed into your next kick.
  • Also, if your balance is strong, you can trick your opponent by keeping your kicking foot in front (instead of shifting it back for force, as is normal). This way even a hardcore fighter cannot guess what you are going to do next with your foot. This gives an edge: the powerful element of surprise in your attack.
  • Also, balance is where you can take the strength from your stronger legs. Otherwise you are likely to exhaust yourself even in your punches by using up upper body strength.
Learn to get great from with your footwork and balance. It is here that a fighter can lose or gain in a fight. If your form here is weak you will have low stamina and that is how you will be exhausted by your opponent.
